Photos from the Museum of London

I borrowed Daddy Monkey's little camera and couldn't quite figure out what it wanted me to do so there aren't any photos from inside the museum as flash photography of course is not allowed with all the old exhibits and the camera said no.

Here's one of Big Monkey dressing up as an Archaeologist, she's holding a trowel and a bone ice skating piece.

There are they all in front of the museum, Little Monkey pretends he isn't part of our little group.

Well, at least someone is looking pretty and smiling...

He did enjoy running around here even though it doesn't look like it.

Always good for a silly photo opportunity.

A police phone box, now out of service so rare and greatly admired.

I, too, loved this butterfly art work by Rebecca J Cole from the Guildhall Art Gallery.

London Aquarium

On one of our trips during the Christmas break we visited the London Aquarium. We really enjoyed it, except for Little Monkey who for some reason did not like the dark.

There are real sharks!

After the aquarium we walked down the Southbank to the Tate Modern. Which is dark too but for some reason Little Monkey didn't found it scary. Probably because it was too weird. Two chairs over each other, a pile of sunflower seeds with too much lead paint (even if made by Weiwei) didn't impress us at all. The actual rooms were very bright though so that's probably what Little Monkey liked. That and having to ask "what's that??".

They did have biscuits and tea in the Cafe though.

The British Museum

This is just round the corner, well sort of, from the World's best saxophone shop so we walked there after lunch. Daddy Monkey had never seen the Rosetta stone. Neither had Little Monkey but he didn't really want to know, he didn't care.

He wanted to see the exhibition about death...

A mosaic made out of pills.

Nah, he didn't really want to see that, maybe the African textiles. No, not that either. Maybe the Chinese Art? Or maybe the gift shop? At this point we dragged him to the Ancient Greeks. He didn't want to see these either but I decided that Big Monkey should have a look. They did Ancient Greece in school before the summer break so she might need a little inspiration to get back into the swing of things. Not long until it's time to go back, you know.

We did go and see the Rosetta Stone, Daddy Monkey did have a good look around, made the suitable noises of being impressed. Then we raced after Little Monkey to make sure he didn't start climbing any Ancient Egyptian statues...

By the time we left the museum it had started to rain. Again. This is getting boring.

More photos from the London Eye

London Eye

As it was a bank holiday weekend we decided instead of a little weekend trip we would go on the London Eye.

From the top we could see Alexandra Palace.

Little Monkey was a bit worried at first and wouldn't get up from the bench in the middle of the cabin. Only after a while he ventured a bit closer to the glass but only for a short time.

We were really lucky with the weather, it was nice and sunny while we were on the London Eye so we could see very far and the view was very clear.

M & M World

I couldn't quite believe it but there is a four storey shop in London dedicated to M & Ms.

You can buy anything from pillows, cups, clothes, balls to cat toys. Oh, and alarm clocks.

And sweets of course. Here Big Monkey clutches our special sea coloured baggy of green and blue M & Ms that we chose from the containers. (and her Playmobil dragon who joined in)

This is Little Monkey after he met Green. Well, can't blame him really. They are normally a lot smaller and not adult size nor do they normally speak and mention his nice green wellie boots.

We only found this while searching for a Routemaster mug for Grandpa. We didn't find one in case you're wondering. But today's program was actually the London Eye and Chinatown. Photos from that tomorrow. Now I have to marvel at that lovely colour combination in the wine glasses...

Horses!

I love London, where else would one be in a traffic jam during morning rush hour not because of traffic but a herd of horses galloping along the road...

365 - 046

This is just one of the best sights in London. It's not actually called Big Ben, it's the clock tower of the palace of Westminster, the bell inside is called Big Ben. They don't know why anymore, some say it's after the man who oversaw the installation of the bell or a boxer. In any case it's just wonderful to look at I think.

365 - 043

I haven't felt very well the last few days so didn't manage to take a photo. I wondered whether I got the virus that has been going around. Anyway, yesterday we took Grandpa on a sightseeing tour through London. We started with lunch in China town.
