How to eat a pomegranate

When talking about what fruit are in season right now I mentioned that pomegranates are right now. Big Monkey was all excited and asked whether we can have one as she loves them, but she wanted it whole and not already deseeded. Not a problem they are easily found right now. The local grocer's had a big box on display with the sign "pomigranite" I liked that so I chose one of those. Until then I didn't think much about how to actually cut it open and eat it, however, while blog hopping randomly in the afternoon I came across a post on how to open a pomegranate. So that's what we did.

We cut off the top and quartered it.

Then I filled the bowl with water and pulled the seeds out. That way the white membrane floats on the surface and can be easily removed and the seeds don't stain the work top or clothes. I had forgotten about that so I now have a stained chopping board. But that's alright it can be friends with the one I cut beetroot on.

One pomegranate has quite a lot of seeds, we had ours with vanilla ice cream. Yum!

Someone said he didn't want them as they were yucky but strangely had his fingers constantly in my bowl to nick lots and lots of them.

Bit Monkey was very happy and she loved how pretty the insides were and she thought it was delicious, whatever you call it.

  1. Pomegranates are a favourite here too - they are meant to be the apple Eve used rather than an Apple (apple meant tree fruit or something like that and our apples wouldn't have grown in the middle east then....) lots of legends about Pomegranates too :)

  2. We love pomegranate's too! They are Sarika's favorite! If you cut it in the water, you won't stain your board! :) When I was prego with Sarika I went about 10 days eating 5 whole pomegranate's a day! Must be why she loves them so! :) hehehehe
